Poo baths

I"m sure you're wondering about my heading for this post. I decided to start with something other than running tonight. As I was bathing my son tonight he decides to take a dump in his bath... yuck, gross. I can't say it's his first time. The first time he did it, he was probably about 2 months old. He is 4 months old this week and let another rip in his tub. My first reaction is OH NO!! What am I supposed to do. I'm all by myself with a wet slippery baby. What a mess. It was quite the gong show in the bathroom. It was definitely not one of my finest moments.

What is it with  this kid? My daughter was always a lady and NEVER did number 2 while bathing. My son on the other hand obviously doesn't mind sitting in his own poop. I wonder if it's a boy thing. This kid has projectile pooped on the change table that his hit the walls and his crib. I have never seen anything like this before. It's actually quite comical. If there was a competition, I'm sure he'd be a winner.

Poop on the wall and this was at 3am - Kill me!

After the poo clean up, I was all ready for a night run. The weather was incredible tonight. We are breaking records daily. We had a high of 14 degrees today and at 9pm, it was still reading 11 degrees celcius. I think this may be my last run outside this week as it's supposed to drop below freezing again!!!

I met up with my run buddy and ran a 10K loop. My knees are feeling much better, the weather was perfect until it started raining. It was probably a good thing that we didn't go any longer because 1. I was getting pretty drenched and 2. the baby had woken up and was waiting for me to get home and feed. I really need to get him on the bottle. Any tips out there???

Finally got a picture, wet but smiling

Week 4

What a great start go week 4. I had been dying to get out and run with my running pal since I had the baby. But with timing and the crazy weather, I haven't been able to head out with her.We were finally able to nail down a date... TODAY!! I was so looking forward to it. She will be running the Rochester half with me in April, but is also going to be running the Gasparilla Half Marathon in Tampa, which you may recall was the first half we ever did together. I sadly will not be able to join her this year. It was 3 years ago that we ran our first half together. She has gone on to run many more with and without me :( She has patiently waited for me to have babies and recover. I will hopefully be going next year to run with her.

We decided to meet up where we used to run with our running group. It was just like old times. It has been almost 2 years that I've run with her. I had imagined it in my head for so long and it was just as I had imagined. I definitely rather run with someone than alone. We chatted the entire time. It was so nice to catch up with her and just have someone to talk to.  I hope I'll be able to get out more often with her.

She was kind enough to join me for a nice 10K today. It was a cool -3 but we warmed up quickly. It was nice to have her push me,  I'm sure she wanted to go a bit faster, but I'm glad she didn't. It's the longest distance I've run since having the baby. Looking forward to another week of running.
I was in such a rush to get home to the baby that I forgot to take picture of us today. Here's a photo of us after finishing the Montreal 21.1. Super wet race that day, but the course took us onto the Grand Prix Track. Great race !

After the run, I went home to celebrate ... I ate back all the calories I had burned on our run, but boy it was worth it.

Have a great week. How far did you run this weekend??

The Mothership

Tonight was another run on the treadmill. We were getting another dumping of snow. It was beautiful and I was hoping to get outside, but it wasn't going to happen today. I had a date with my treadmill and a movie. I am actually starting to not mind running on the treadmill since I started watching movies. I have a nice little setup as you can see in the photo. It started with Magic Mike earlier this week. It was hard to focus ladies...if you know what I mean. .wink wink. Channing Tatum and Matthew McConnaughy know how to get the ladies off their feet. I almost fell off the treadmill when watching the movie. If you haven't seen it, go get it. It's a mindless movie full of eye candy.

Tonight, I was going to finish Eat, Pray, Love. I had started it 2 nights ago on my last training run. It's definitely a chick flick. All I could think about was the "balance" that Julia Robert's character was looking for. I started to think about my own life. Trying to balance being a good mom, wife, sister, daughter and friend. I also liked the scene where they all had to say what they were thankful for in their lives. I was overwhelmed with happiness when I thought about all the wonderful things God has blessed me with. I am truly thankful for all that I have. Most of all, having my health and being able to run. I ended up just running and not even thinking about the distance I had to cover tonight. I ended up running 5.88 miles, more than what I was supposed to cover.  Both the kids were sound asleep and I had to finish the movie so I just kept running. Hope the snow lets up and the sidewalks get shovelled so I can pound the pavement this weekend.

The Mothership
The Mothership a.k.a. the Dreadmill a.k.a the Treadmill. I have hung the medal from the Rochester Half marathon 2011 on one side of my iPad to motivate me, my 2 babies sound asleep for me to watch on their monitors and of course my iPad fully loaded with movies and music to keep me going :)
All done :)  Have a great weekend

-27 really????

Call me a wimp, but there was no way I was going to run outside this week. There is not enough layering that will get me outside.  The weather has been beyond crazy... crazy as in it has been ridiculously COLD. It was the breaking news on all television channels and radio networks. Videos of people throwing water into the air that turned into snow.. yes, that's how cold it is. I had planned to run outside with my buddy, but we decided that we were not crazy enough to freeze out butts. So, down to the dreadmill I go. I've started watching movies when on the dreadmill and it seems to be helping me pass the time. I finished watching Magic Mike (ouu la la) on my last two runs and today I started Eat, Pray, Love.  As for my training, I've hoped right back onto the training schedule. I have 95 more days to race day and right on track with my plan. My knee is slowly mending. I was able to run 3.52 miles tonight on the dreadmill while enjoying my movie of the night. Baby was great and didn't cry tonight and let mommy run... what more can I ask for :)

I was also a WINNER this week .. ha.ha.. I had written in an earlier post about searching for a sports bra. I stumbled upon Shock Absorber http://www.shockabsorberworld.com and entered a contest they had on Facebook and guess what. I won! I look forward to telling you all about how well the bra performs in keeping me "bounce free"

-16 before the windchill. I'm staying INDOORS!!

Mastitis!! Ouch

I'm sitting in the local walk in clinic in hopes that the doctor can help ease this pain that I started experiencing yesterday. Why not kill sometime with blogging. It started off with sore boob and then aches and chills. I figured it would go away and praying that I wasn't coming down with the flu. After consulting other nursing moms and googling all my symptoms, it sounds like I have mastitis. With a mild fever I drag myself in -14 degree weather to sick with sick people in the clinic. Yuck germs!! I've isolated myself in the corner from the other people who are hacking away and dropping snotty tissues everywhere. I guess no yoga tonight :(

Week 3 - Rest

I've decided to take this week off as my knee has been bothering me for sometime now and I don't want it to get any worse. I felt fine running on it all last week, but apparently that's normal as my muscles are warmed up. It's when I'm not running is when my knee starts to bother me. I have been icing after every run and applying anti-inflammatory lotions and potions to help recovery

Like my pretty bows

So I'll try some yoga and some other stretching exercises. Ho humm. Hoping to be running soon.

Week 2

I finished week 2 a bit sore but still standing. My friend Christine joined me for 2 of my runs this week which made the runs much more enjoyable. It's always nice to have someone to chat with as I am one of those runners that like to run with others rather an alone.  It's also nice to run with a buddy when running at night from a safety perspective as I do most of my running in the evening right after I put James down for bed. I ended up running a total of 20 km this week following my half marathon training plan. My knees are still a bit sore and I'm going to take a few days off from training to rest the knees.

Week 1 done

Wohoo! I made it through the first week of my half marathon training schedule. I ran 19km's this week. It's the most I've run since having James.  I wasn't able to follow the schedule to a tee as I have already hit a road bump. My knees have started to hurt a bit :(  It's the first time I've had this type of pain. I just noticed it recently. It may have been a run that I did on the treadmill with a pair of shoes that has given me trouble in the past. I'm not sure if that was the cause, but  from talking to my running buddy, she thinks I may have tendinitis of the knee, fondly known as "jumpers knee".  From what I've read online, I have to take it easy and take care of it. I have been icing after every run and now in search of a foam roller to help me stretch more as well working on strengthening my quadricep and hamstring muscles. I want to continue to train and run the half without injury. I'm hoping that I will be able to work through this.

Today was long run Sunday. After a delicious dim sum lunch with the in laws, I washed down the grease with some tea and headed out for my run.  I look forward to Sundays. Firstly, because we get to go to church as a family. Claire loves going to Sunday School and I love being able to fellowship with others and get a good message from the pulpit. Today's message was about where I wanted to see my spiritual life go in 2013. It was a wonderful message and I hope that I will be able to follow up on what I promised myself and God. Secondly, it's Long run SUNDAY!!! enough said.

It was a pretty good day for a run. The temperature was above zero which is great for this time of year. I was able to get out and do a good 7km as per my training schedule. I was so happy to be able to run freely and not worry about a crying James as I knew he was in good hands with my hubby and the in laws :)  I was a bit weary of the run as my knees had been bothering me, but I had take 2 days off from running and been icing it and stretching, so I was rearing to go. I took it nice and easy. I didn't stare at my Garmin to check my time. It was a great way to finish up my first week of training. 15 more weeks to go. Have a great week all

icing my knees after the run.. feels so good

Happy New Year!

I've never been a big celebrator of new years eve, especially with young kids we haven't been able to really party it up these past few years.  This year was not much different. I almost missed the countdown but James woke me up at 11:57 for a feed! I woke up in my groggy state and stared at the clock to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I quickly jumped out of bed to feed him and do the countdown with him. I must say this was one of my memorable new years eve countdowns.

So on with the new year are new resolutions.  This year I  hope to finish a full marathon with a smile on my face. I have decided with some buddies that we will run the Rochester Half this April. So, why not start the year right with a run.  It was a gorgeous day today and after a delicious dim sum lunch with friends, I went for a quick 5km run with a friend. This run proved to be my quickest 5km run since I got pregnant. My running mate pushed me which I truly didn't mind because I know I would not have pushed myself if I was alone. This week is the start of my half marathon training. I've decided to ease myself back to this distance with a training plan I used for my first ever half. I'm hoping to be able to complete it without injury. So 5 km done . . many more to go.

Antelope Canyon 50 Miler Recap Part 2

We were lucky that the race start was only a 15 minute drive from our hotel, so we were able to sleep until the very last minute.  Race star...
